The Ghost of You Release Day Book Blitz

The Ghost of You
by Amanda Burckhard
Release Date: 02/24/15
Swoon Romance

Summary from Goodreads:
Emmy has everything she’s ever wanted: a hot boyfriend she adores, great friends, a promising future, and even a well-connected family. But one night rips it all away.

A car accident shatters her world, claiming the lives of her twin brother and her best friend. In the wake of the accident, her friends drift away, her family falls apart, and her boyfriend cheats.

The grief is more than she can handle, so she finds escape at the bottom of a bottle of painkillers. Taking the pills makes her brother alive again, if only in her head. Seeing and talking to her brother as if he were still alive is the only thing that keeps her going. Until Logan King moves to town.

Logan sees past the mask of pristine popularity she wears in public and he’s the only one who can tell she hasn’t moved on. His uncanny ability to read her forces her to open up and she starts to fall for him, no matter how unwilling she is to admit it. But Emmy isn’t the only one keeping secrets and when a close brush with death sparks events that bring everything to light, Emmy will have to decide what’s more important: learning how to forgive and move on, or holding onto the pills and the ghost of her past.

Excerpt

I darted my way around a few chattering and dancing people. If there was one rule I lived by with my best friend, it was friends don’t let friends get hammered and make out with their exes.

When I reached them, I slid my arm under hers and pulled them apart. “Come on, Skye. Time to go home.” She didn’t put up a fight as I dragged her away. She only giggled in a way I knew meant she had one too many shots of that vodka I saw her carrying around earlier.

We stepped outside into the summer night air and waited for Zane to pull his car around.  We sat on the bottom step of the porch, and Skye started to fall asleep on my shoulder. Sleep  sounded nice. “My stomach hurts,” she whined into my hair.

That last shot had settled, and mine wasn’t feeling the greatest either. “We’ll get you some ginger ale at Zane’s. You can nap in the car until then.” I pulled out my phone to text Derek. It was hard to focus on the screen.

 Me: Stayinf at Zane’s. You grood to get ho

Mid text, Skye knelt over and heaved. I set my phone down and pulled back her hair just in time. Zane pulled up and came around to us. “Get it all out now because if you puke in my car you’re walking home.”

After a minute or two, she assured us she was fine so we helped her into the back seat and sped off toward town. The open window sent warm air swirling around us like a blanket fresh out of the dryer. The forest smelled of fresh dew and sunshine, even though the sun had set a few hours ago. Soon it would start to smell of decay and changing leaves.

Zane grabbed my hand with the hand that wasn’t on the steering wheel and interlaced our fingers. “We still all crashing at my place?”

I squeezed his hand, smiling. “Skye’s mom thinks she’s at my place. My mom thinks I’m at hers. You know the drill.” Zane’s dad traveled a lot with work so his house was almost always empty on weekends. Something we often took advantage of.

Fifteen minutes later, Skye was passed out in the guest bed and Zane was half carrying, half dragging, me into his room. His lips found my ear lobe, softly caressing the edge with his tongue. My entire body tingled. “We shouldn’t. Skye’s right down the hall,” I breathed.

He moved his lips down to the skin above my collar bone, the place he knew always sent me over the edge. “She’s out cold. I seriously doubt she’ll hear anything during that vodka-induced coma.”

We backed into the bed and collapsed into it. Zane’s hand crept to the edge of my shirt, but my phone started to ring from where I set it on his dresser. The song roared in the quiet house.

Carry on, my wayward son
For there’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more.

I pulled away at the sound of Derek’s ringtone. It was his favorite song, and he blasted it in his Mustang every chance he got. Zane pulled me back to him, recognizing the ringtone as well.
“Call him back.” His voice was pleading, on the verge of a whine.

My lips hovered over his. “It’ll just take a second.”

By the time I pried myself out of Zane’s arms and crossed the room, my phone stopped ringing. I called him back, but it went straight to voicemail. I went to send him a text instead and noticed the one I had typed earlier when we were leaving. I must have forgotten to send it. Deleting it, I sent him a different one asking what he wanted. There was still no reply by the time I fell asleep.

Excerpt

I tore my eyes from the mess in front of me and zeroed in on the crap weasel standing in front of Coach Shea's office. If Tayla had seen him, she wouldn't have questioned who was behind the destruction. The perpetrator stood a measly yard and a half from us, and wore a bored expression.

Ryker Vaughn, Tayla's black-sheep cousin and all-around douche nozzle extraordinaire, was as noxious and irritating as he was handsome. Looking as though he were plucked straight out of one of those big-budget Clash of the Titans movies, he was chiseled like Hercules and rocked a massive Narcissus complex. Gorgeous, with stormy gray eyes and cropped, dark hair, dude thought he was the shizzle, and refused to give the meager masses the time of day. As deadly as he was handsome, there wasn't a person in Indigo Falls, or the surrounding counties, who wouldn't recognize his name: Ryker the Striker.

A humanized weapon of the martial arts variety, Ryker had spent a large portion of his eighteen years studying and perfecting Brazilian Jui-Juitsu and Muay Thai. The captain of the wrestling team at Douglas High before he graduated last year, he won two state championships and held the record for most wins and takedowns in a single season.

Unfortunately for him, neither his name, his good looks, or his martial arts skills saved him from the set of security cameras stationed around the building's perimeter. Why was he here talking to Coach Shea? Why wasn't his butt sitting in a jail cell somewhere?

I let my eyes wander from Ryker to the wreckage in front of me and frowned. The guy was more than capable of this type of demolition. What I couldn't understand was the why of it? He wasn't the world's friendliest guy, but I'd never known him to be outright destructive and criminal.

Though, if I were being honest, I didn't really know him. I'd only crossed paths with him at a few of Tayla's family gatherings. He'd kept to his scowling self, barely uttering a word to anyone the entire time. Unsociable bastard.

Mistletoe & Hollywood
Jack Eversea and Evan Weston, two of Hollywood’s hottest young actors had their hearts stolen by regular down to earth girls, and we lived and laughed and loved their stories in the Eversea Series and in the Desire Resort Series. But what happened when the books were over?
How did each couple choose to spend their first Christmas? Was it sexy, emotional, stressful or heartwarming?
Perhaps it was everything and more…
My Star, My Love (An Eversea Series Novella) by Natasha Boyd
Movie star, Jack Eversea, has decided to brave his history with England and take the love of his life, Keri Ann Butler, home to meet his mother for Christmas. He’s been back in California and Keri Ann’s been busy with art school, and they are desperate to spend three weeks together over the Holidays.
But Jolly Old England does weird things to Jack. And despite his super sweet “twelve days of Christmas” gift giving, Keri Ann can’t quite work out of he’s about to propose or regrets bringing her home. Is he still questioning whether she can handle a few paparazzi, or is he doubting Keri Ann’s commitment to their future?
The magnetic couple is back in a fun, sometimes poignant, and super sexy story about acceptance, love and how to make love quietly in a creaky old house with one’s mother down the hall.
Many Times, Many Ways (A Desire Resort Series Novella) by Kate Roth
Vacation is over.
Danielle was escaping her monotonous life at a sexy beach resort when she first fell under the spell of Hollywood hunk, Evan Weston, but now they’re trying to make their relationship work in the real world.
While they’re both hopeful for what lies ahead, the only question is whether or not their desires for the future are one and the same.
Things have always moved quickly between Evan and Danielle, but Danielle can’t stave off the lingering anxiety she has once she finds out about Evan’s big plans—and even bigger Christmas gift. Can she continue to let go of the worry that plagues her so the man of her dreams can give her the life she never imagined she’d have?

Author Interview

  1. Where did you come up with the inspiration behind the book?
-->
NB: I wanted to write a book about how it feels to fall in love; when every single interaction, look and thought regarding the other person takes on monumental impact. When it’s all you can think about. I also wanted it to be part Cinderella story, but where Cinderella doesn’t really need to be saved and the prince is not exactly perfect.
KR:
--> When Natasha brought me the idea of bringing my characters from Last Resort back for a holiday novella I knew I had more to show for them. The novella for Mistletoe & Hollywood came so easily. It proved to me how much I love Evan and Danielle.

  • What inspired you to write your first book?
  • -->
    NB: I’ve always written. I love to write.  But recently we moved to a new area and I wasn’t working, my youngest was in school, and I didn’t know many people. So one day I sat down to write and just kept going.
    KR:
    --> --> My debut novel, The Low Notes, is the first book I ever finished. I started writing versions of it as far back as high school. Forbidden love has always called to me and The Low Notes is my take on the ultimate forbidden romance.

  • --> What books/authors have influenced your writing?
    -->
    NB: Every book I read inspires me in some way.  I read across so many genres that I don’t believe I specifically have much of anyone’s influence in my writing.
    KR:
    --> So many authors! Everyone from Emily Giffin to Joe Hill. My very first inspiring author was Katherine Applegate. She wrote a YA series I devoured as a teen and it really propelled my love of fiction.

  • What was your favourite scene to write?
  • -->

    -->
    NB:
    -->It’s funny. I get asked this question a lot, and every time I really need to think about it.  I think the scene when Keri Ann and Jazz get drunk together. It comes right after Keri Ann gets kicked in the gut (metaphorically) and inspired to get her a** into gear about her art and her future and life in general.  There’s some great banter between the two friends too when Jack shows up.
    KR:
    --> Ooh, well my favourite was a scene I can’t share without giving major spoilers! But I loved being able to write a few more love scenes for Evan and Danielle. Those are always fun and they are one of my favourite couples I’ve written—their chemistry is off the charts.

  • What was the hardest part of writing your book?
  • -->
    -->
    NB:
    --> Believing I could do it.  And trying to write it as if no one would ever read it. You know that phrase ‘dance like nobody is watching’? It’s the same with writing.
    KR:
    --> It was hard for me to just tell the holiday story. A part of me wanted to keep going and show their entire life but that would’ve made for a long and incredibly fluffy read since I want them to be happy.

  • How do you overcome writer's block?
  • -->
    -->
    NB:
    -->The best solution for me is to open a new document and write my characters in a totally made up, stupid situation. That way I usually find out where they actually want to go (instead of where I was forcing them to go).
    KR:
    --> I usually try to read something or see a movie. Unwinding and getting my mind on something else usually breaks me out of a block.

  • What are your current projects?
  • -->
    -->
    NB: Finishing Jazz and Joey’s story.  I had to put that aside for a while to work on Deep Blue Eternity (formally known as The Cottage). It will be out in March 2015.
    KR:
    --> I’m currently working the next book in the Desire Resort series and a novella in my Confession Records collection.

  • --> What book are you reading now?

    -->
    NB:
    -->The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell
    KR:
    --> I’m reading Stronger With Him by JA Hensley. I’m loving it so far!

  • If you could have dinner with any fictional character who would it be and why?
  • -->

    -->
    NB:  It would be a dinner party because I could never pick just one.  Can you imagine a dinner companion who was a “good” vampire, and who had been stuck as a teenager for a hundred years? Fascinating.  What about President Snow (Hunger Games)? He would be a totally scary dinner companion but man, do I have some questions for him.  I’d really love to have dinner with Mrs. Weaton, the elderly neighbour from my Eversea series. Boy, she lived a life. I’d love to know more!
    KR:
    --> I have a sick love for Nick Carraway from The Great Gatsby. I’d love to meet him!

  • Do you have any advice for other writers?
  • -->
    -->
    NB: Ha ha!  Write like no one is reading, but publish like everyone will.  Give yourself permission to write an imperfect first draft, but don’t release anything less than what you deem to be perfect. There’s a long road between the two, don’t get pressured to take a short cut, and don’t quit because it’s a long road.
    KR:
    --> Keep writing! I always say be a writer first and an author second. Your passion and your love for writing should be what keeps you going.
