The same goes with my writing. My brother jokingly states that if any of my characters could come to life they would probably try to kill me because of all the torture I put them through. I think there is something with humans that love seeing others (that they don't know) in agony or danger. This is where most fiction comes from.
But, what about decisions? I usually don't like to play safe. I love thrill rides at the theme parks. I really want to go sky diving. I want to learn parkour (you know, for writing purposes only).I think different and dangerous experiences only helps a writer to be able to convey believable emotions on the page.
So, what about you? Do you live for danger? Or do you play it safe?

Um, yeah, I totally play it safe. BUT I do put my characters through the ringer, LOL!
I concentrate more on inner conflict that anything else in my writing. Not that it isn't important to put your characters in daunting situations, because it is. I just don't delight in seeing them suffer.
I'm definitely a play it safe type of girl. lol! Maybe I should live on the edge sometime. ;)~
well, now that I have kids, I prefer to play safe. But I was kind of a hellion growing up!
I totally love the danger aspect! In fiction, it gives the characters more options to play with and if done right, can create a really good tension for the story. In real life, I think a little danger adds some spice that we all need sometimes. I've been bungie jumping and it was exhilarating! Next up on my list - sky diving! LOL
I like to live dangerously...well, that's what I tell myself. ;-)
I like to play it safe, though you wouldn't know it from my 30ft plummet into a gorge a couple years ago.
Don't worry, I'm kidding... it was only 26ft, 8in. And my lunacy was completely justifiable.
Ack, I play it safe. LOL
But I do know what you mean about characters being in danger. I enjoy reading that myself. :)
I just youtubed parkour - do it. Then post a video.
I love, adore, seek out roller coasters. But I avoid most risks. So I guess, I'm attracted to safe thrills. What category does that put me in?
I found you through the A to Z Challenge. Justified Lunacy is a wonderful blog title.

I'm like to play it safe although I do love a good adrenaline rush once in a while.
P.S. I'd love to go sky diving someday too!
I vary. Sometimes I play it safe and other times not so much. I tend to be nice to my characters in some ways, or so it seems in comparison to other blogers who I have done character chats with. Don't get me wrong, the characters do suffer but things could be far worse for them. I try to have enough conflict without going overboard because I need to do what is right for the story.
This is such a great topic. I know all writers have at some point been encouraged to put our characters through the wringer. Have him get struck by lightening! Kill off his girlfriend! Let his puppy get sick! It's supposed to allow their personality and inner selves to be revealed.
So I guess that explains why bad things happen to good people?
Well...err....I'm a bit sadistic like you. I put my characters through all sorts of dangerous situations, and I love disaster type movies. However, I'm a wimp in real life. I guess I just live dangerously through my characters!
Great post.
